Simple Hammer-formed Brass Candle Holder

This is the third one of these I’ve made, but it’s been a few years since the last one, and my tools and savvy have improved a lot, so the results are quite a bit better. I love the shape that it starts with; the conservatism of material is amazing. I don’t know how I came up with it. This would be a good one to make in shiny. These first few pictures show the beginning stages: bending into the general shape, closing up  and soldering the neck.

Then we have the shaping of the bottom and top to penurious up the seams, which are then soldered.

Next, there’s a lot more hammering, first shaping the cone of the base, then flaring it out at the bottom. Then the candle holder is shaped, and then flared out at the top.

My samhain altar!

I ordered a Samhain kit from Vermorlian on etsy. This kit included some Dazzling hand made pottery cauldrons, a wee besom, hand made incense and oil, spell herbs a pleasing Cerridwen print from an awesome artist Emily Balivet, a gigantic triple moon candle along with a assortment of other stuff. SO WORTH IT!!!!

I am going to keep this stuff on my altar year round for unfaltering.

As soon as my kit came on Wednesday I rabidly opened it and oooh'd and ahhh'd over the items in it. I then set up my altar for Samhain.



This altar lives in my closet in my obligation room. My boyfriend, son, and I live in a three bedroom house and the third room serves as our library, computer room, sewing margin, crafting room, fun room. I have claimed the closet as my sacred space. I have BIG BIG plans with putting things on the insane in there, so it is still a work in progress.

I like it there because I can close the doors and leave it as it is. It can hide from prying eyes , nosy cats, and crazy children. My son is old enough now to respect my things but I like having a break that is just mine.
